Creating Your Sacred Space
If your new to Paganism, Wicca, or Witchcraft you might be looking at all these videos with ornate sacred spaces and thinking, as I did, oh man I wish I could have one of these spaces in my life. I would use it all the time and it would help my path out so much. Then you might get a bit upset and not really put much thought into the space available to you because it can't be this big room specifically dedicated to your practice. Don't worry because pretty much everyone I know or watch on YouTube started out pretty much where you are now. There is nothing wrong with having a small space some people actually prefer it, but you don't see it because they aren't the types of spaces that make for successful videos. I remember back in 2010 when I officially started my path my main working space was a small corner of my room and the rest was subtlety throughout the rest of my room. I never made a video about it at least not a dedicated one about it I might have shown it at times, but never a dedicated video. I first posted a video about an sacred space was the ancestor altar tour I posted as one of my first videos when I started becoming active again on YouTube. It really doesn't matter if other people see your sacred space. What really matters is your connection to your sacred space and your connection to your path.
I know I struggled with how I should set up my altar at first because I don't connect the elements to the same directions as most pagans.

Me

As you can see really only fire matches up to traditional correspondence. This led me to have a lot of confusion as to how I should set up my altar or even set up my room. Eventually I discovered others had different correspondence with the elements and the directions and I felt so relieved and just went to setting up my room in accordance with my belief's. In my bedroom growing up I had one window and ironically it faced west. I thought perfect I can use it for an air altar by placing a hand fan above it. In the north above my miscellaneous dresser I had a little ancestor shrine and a water altar because I have a connection, one I need to delve into more, with the ferryman and since he takes you across the river leading into the after life having my ancestor space close to my water altar made sense. On top of my dresser with my clothes I put my earth altar. It primary consisted of where I kept my stones and my little Buddha incense holder, but it worked for me. Finally in the south my fire altar and my working altar. I had a small end table that had a small drawer which is where I kept my book of shadows and my oracle cards and a small space beneath the drawer where I stored my candles and incense which I used as my fire altar space. I obviously couldn't light anything under there, but for my path it was perfect.
Then once I actually went away to college I tried to bring as much as I could with me to my dorm room. However, I tried to consider who I was going to have as a roommate because it was also their space. I decided to only bring my Morgan statue, an amethyst crystal, and my oracle cards. My first year my roommate gave me this beautiful silk scarf for my birthday that I used as my altar cloth. This small altar only took up a little space on my dresser, but it was enough for me to still have a place that brought me a sense of peace and connection. I was lucky that I could express myself to this extent.
